2013 Performers

Once again, the 2013 Chester County Blues Barbecue will feature three great bands, each performing extended sets of 1 hour and 20 minutes. Details on each of the 2013 bands is provided below. This is going to be a great event!

Dukes of Destiny

Over the last 25 years the Dukes have gained a large and loyal following among Philadelphia listeners who know and love the blues. They’ve appeared at four River Blues Festivals at Penn’s Landing, five concerts sponsored by the Philadelphia Blues Machine, the YO Philadelphia Festival sponsored by the Daily News, and the Pocono Blues Festival. They have also been an opening act for such greats as Albert King, Charlie Musselwhite, Commander Cody, Gatemouth Brown, Koko Taylor, John Lee Hooker, and John Mayall. The band has also served as the backup band for legendary Chicago guitarist/singer Otis Rush. In 1993 the band received an award from the Philadelphia Folk Song Society. With a mix of their own arrangements of obscure blues standards and powerful original songs, the Dukes continue to grow and develop. Their solid musicianship and love of the music inspires fans and critics alike.

Georgie Bonds

Georgie “The Blacksmith” Bonds has been called “the heart & soul of the Philadelphia blues scene”. Georgie's unusual and unlikely path to the Blues ultimately led to some wonderful and amazing music.  In 2001, Georgie independently released his debut CD, "Sometimes I Wonder" and he is currently on a new CD. He was chosen for an acting/singing role in the broadway hit, It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues, which was nominated for four Tony Awards and Best Musical and praised by the New York Times.  In 2012, Georgie was inducted into the Philadelphia Blues Hall of Fame. Georgie has established himself as a world class singer/songwriter and blues entertainer and the best is yet to come. It seems as though the Blacksmith is blessed with the gift of making his dreams come true and his fans will reap the benefits of those beautiful dreams.

Michael Hill's Blues Mob

Michael Hill's Blues Mob
Michael Hill’s Blues Mob has recorded six internationally released albums of their Original, New York-Style Blues.  The Mob has captivated audiences in twenty-nine countries around the globe. Beginning with “Bloodlines”, their 1994 Alligator Records debut, they’ve built a distinguished body of work that has drawn world-wide critical and audience acclaim for dynamic musicianship and vivid storytelling. Michael Hill’s lyrics eloquently convey the passion, the humor and the desire for freedom and justice that are intrinsic to the blues. The band transmits those lyrics through blues that is seasoned with flavors of rock, R&B, funk and more, making every show a celebration of music, life and love.  Michael is a 2011 inductee into the New York Blues Hall of Fame as a Master Blues Artist.
